Deafness Matters ~ BSL and subtitles
Deafness Matters is an uplifting film about deafness and how it affects young people. This unique film shows young people having fun and sharing their experiences of deafness through role plays, team building, drama and interviews. It provides a useful tool for discussion relevant to young people, parents, schools, universities, employers and anyone who wants to raise awareness about deafness. The film has received substantial attention from national and local media. It has been publicised on BBC National Television local news, See Hear (BBC2) & BBC Radio Oxford. The Oxford Mail Newspaper recently published an article about “Deafness Matters” and the film has been selected for the International Documentary Film Festival OXDOX.
Produced & Directed by Erika Stevenson for Oxfordshire Deaf Children’s Society (ODCS) This is what people have said about the film:-“My favourite aspect of making the film was meeting other deaf people similar to my age and discussing our experiences. This reinforces the fact that we are not alone”. “It has given me an understanding of what deafness is like and has given me confidence to communicate with deaf people”
